Struggle At The Snuggle Factory

satsf was theory-synth song-writing project of Demian Rufus [aka Mike Richard]. the process began first while a student at at California Institute of the Arts [cal arts], & was performed live while a composition student there from 2001-2005. a second, follow-up, large scale, multimedia performance with video artist, Emily Kunst & and Phillip Haut [synth and drums], was at Highways Performance Art Space in Santa Monica in 2005. he then had a release on FinalMusik, an Italian, experimental label, & then in 2008, he moved to Portland, Oregon, completing more albums for his Demain label & Distro!. satsf took a break between 2013 and 2019, while he independently studied speculative pragmatist philosophy. the last song sats did with friend/collaborator, Phillip Haut, was in 2019. the project has been inactive since, as Demian Rufus pursues his theory-drone music for his audio-visual ecology processes/projects for mental/social/environmental ecologies. inspiration for the satsf name came while reading Guattari and Negri about "the social factory". so the context is somewhat Marxist [i.e. 'struggle'], while referencing the struggle for intimacy, attempted during homosexual love relationships [i.e. 'deep-snuggle'], and also a minor post-industrial referencing perhaps to the late factory records.
