The Melbourne-based industry veteran got his start as a sound engineer in the mid-1970s. One of his earliest notable projects was producing the self-titled album for Perth glam-rockers artist 902054 before going on to work on artist 615135' 1976 debut, [m=478226].

His renown began to grow and in 1978, he began what would blossom into a decades-long working relationship with Nick Cave, first by working on [m=38657], the debut album by artist 40247 (then known as artist 78466) before going on to engineer and produce their self-titled sophomore effort in 1980. He also worked with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds on eight albums, beginning with 1984's seminal [m=17098].

Other artists Cohen worked with over the years, included artist 410157, artist 306088, artist 83077, artist 347188 (and artist 251445), artist 270677, artist 262610, artist 276110, artist 416860, artist 254492, artist 268593, artist 422723, Mick Harvey, Kylie Minogue and artist 253318.
