D. Chris Smith

D. Chris Smith (aka Smitty) is an American engineer, electronic musician, composer, and sound designer, based in Marina Del Rey, California. He grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, but moved to Los Angeles in 1989 to pursue a degree in recording engineering. After graduation, he worked at label 281079 as an assistant engineer, and assisted David J. Holman, followed by three years with sound editor Stephen Hunter Flick.

In 1995, he joined commercial sound designer Steve Dewey at Machine Head, Venice as a staff sound designer, designing commercials. During this time, he teamed up with DJ/producer Eric Davenport under the moniker "Smitty" to launch the electronic music label Geisha House Music. He produced remixes for artists such as Seal, Marvin Gaye, Jill Scott, Alanis Morrissette as well as original music. After six years at Machine Head, he founded his own company label 4567221 in 2001.
