Ara Simonian

Ara Simonian has been shaping the sound of underground dance music for three decades. His journey began in the mid-80s, DJing local parties in Los Angeles with his brother Reneh, before exploding onto the global scene in the 90s as one half of Sweet Drop. Their breakout single “Acid People” (Strictly Rhythm, 1995) became an international club anthem, paving the way for a string of releases on Groovilicious Records. Sweet Drop’s follow-up “Human Nature” (1996) cemented their legacy—selling over 200,000 copies and licensed more than 40 times worldwide, a rare feat for the era.
Ara’s reputation as a boundary-pushing producer caught the attention of the industry’s biggest names. In 2001, Warner Bros. tapped him for official remixes of Depeche Mode’s “I Feel Loved” and New Order’s “Crystal.” His remix catalog expanded with bold reworks of Pink Floyd’s “A New Machine” and the disco classic “Walk the Night” by the Skatt Brothers.
Never content to stay in one lane, Ara launched into the 2010s with a series of albums on the Post Neanderthal Analog Sound label, diving deep into experimental dance and analog-driven electronic landscapes.
Now, in 2025, Ara is writing a brand-new chapter with the launch of his label NovaHaus Records. Dedicated to forward-thinking house and techno, NovaHaus kicks off this fall with two powerhouse releases dropping in October and November. With his roots in the golden age of house and his eyes locked firmly on the future, Ara Simonian is back—ready to shake dancefloors once again.
