Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorsky (August 18 (30), 1863, Funikova Gora, Pokrovsky District, Vladimir Governorate, Russian Empire – September 27, 1944, Paris, France) – Russian photographer, chemist (student of Dmitri Mendeleyev), inventor, publisher, teacher and public figure, member of the Imperial Russian Geographical, Imperial Russian Technical and Russian Photographic Societies. He made a significant contribution to the development of photography and cinematography. A pioneer of color photography in Russia, creator of the "Collection of Landmarks of the Russian Empire".
