Wolfgang Schmid

German bassist, composer, engineer and producer, born on Nov. 11, 1948 in Stuttgart.
After singing in a choir in the 1950's, Schmid started his musical career as guitarist and singer for a local Soul band called "The Dynamites" from 1962 to 1970. In 1968, he also became part of the band artist 1621104. The same time, he was educated as recording engineer at Stuttgart-based label 344194 of artist 59283.
In 1972, he joined the Jazz-Fusion band artist 179059 of Klaus Doldinger. He stayed bassist in the band during the main Krautrock era between 1972 and 1977 and left the band after a fundamental change in line-up. The following year, he joined artist 1916295 as a bassist. In 1981, he started as bandleader of artist 1198200. In 1986, he founded artist 3971013 and in 1996 artist 1546453 together with Billy Cobham.
Aside from being one of the most influential bassist from Germany's Krautrock era, he also started to teach bass from 1990. In 2016, he received a honor professorship at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart.
