Maria W. Horn

Swedish composer and experimental musician residing in Stockholm, born on July 28, 1989 in Bergum, Göteborg, Västergötland.

Maria W Horn, who grew up in Härnösand, Ångermanland, from 1991 and has been based in Stockholm since 2011, explores various aspects of human perception in her work. She investigates how psychoacoustic phenomena, audiovisuality, as well as the overload or loss of perceptual stimuli, can interact to transcend everyday experiences and evoke altered mental states. Horn is also a member of the Sthlm Drone Society, an organization dedicated to promoting slowly and gradually developing timbral music, and together with Daniel M Karlsson, Kali Malone, and Theodor Kentros, she runs the record label XKatedral in 2025, which has also been registered as a non-profit association since December 7, 2016.

Maria has performed throughout Europe and the Americas, with notable appearances at MUTEK México in Mexico City, Insomnia Festival in Tromsø, Norway, Stanford Live at label 945394, label 1063656 in Berlin, label 339208 in Funchal on the island of Madeira, Portugal, label 2905397 in Parma, Italy, and label 586062 in Montreal, Canada.

Horn's commissions include an audiovisual work for label 29162, Epistasis for string quartet and electronics which premiered at label 348625, and a sound and light installation for 'Scenkonstmuseet' (the Swedish Museum of Performing Arts). She has composed music for the Greek tragedy Phaedra/Hippolytos, performed at label 994409 (the Royal Dramatic Theatre) in Stockholm, and music for a frequency-controllable Tesla coil in collaboration with artist 969912 in artist 6718395 and Thunderstruck.
