Sellyei Tamás

Tamás Sellyei known in professional circles as Silk, was born in Mátraderecské on December 28, 1970. He was a audio engineer and teacher. He studied theoretical physics, during which he established his technical and acoustic knowledge related to audio/sound recording and sound processing. Based on his studies, he began the practical application of tools and technologies used in professional sound recording, which he continuously developed to a higher level during his career.

His professional education and fame were primarily related to his audio engineering activities, with particular attention to the areas of recording, mixing and mastering. His work in these areas made him widely known. His activities as a sound design and recording producer are less well known and have been publicly documented, but he also had high-level, comprehensive professional knowledge in these fields.

During his professional career spanning three decades, he participated in the production of hundreds of sound carriers as a sound engineer, in various musical genres. His works include albums by Neo, Ákos, Magdi Rúzsa, Unique, Back II Black, Emilio, Orsi Kozma, Bin-Jip, Hip Hop Boyz, Császár Előd, V-Tech, UFO, Roy & Ádám, Mester Tamás, Corvus, Oláh Ibolya and Zséda. He has also contributed to the sound design of several Hungarian feature films.

As an international member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), he was in professional contact with foreign developers and participated in international productions. During his work, he combined practical implementation with theoretical foundation and systemic thinking.

A defining stage in his teaching activity was the Magyar Producer Workshop (Hungarian Producer Workshop), which was launched in 2017, and was established at the initiative of Bánkuti Dániel. As an instructor of the initiative, he participated in the process that resulted in the workshop becoming a national professional community and initiative from 2018. During his education, he focused on the topics of producing, recording, mixing and mastering. He died in Budapest on February 28, 2022.
