Romain Azzaro

Raised between France and Italy, Romain Azzaro found his wave playing guitar and drums in punk, cold wave, and psychedelic bands through his teenage years, all the while informed by his prior piano background at the Conservatory of Paris and his abiding interest in the collision of fashion and film alike.

Under his Rouge Mécanique moniker, he released since 2010 multiple EPs and 2 albums maneuvering effortlessly between the acid-house modulations of his Roland JP 8080 and the lysergic searching of his vocals and guitar. Captivated by world music, he co-launches in 2015 the event series & label African Acid Is The Future, melting African rhythms and electronic textures. In 2019, Gilles Peterson offers the label a residency on his famous Worldwide FM radio show.

The obvious cinematic power of his music has already been recognized, leading him to create the soundtrack of multiple short movies, collaborate with Karl Lagerfeld on a Chanel fashion show or develop an audiovisual art installation exhibited at the Cité des Arts of Paris and the Voltaje Art Fair in Colombia.
