Bio
The character, The Shadow, debuted on July 31, 1930, as the mysterious narrator of the radio program, Detective Story Hour, created to boost sales of Street & Smith's monthly pulp magazine, Detective Story Magazine.
On September 26, 1937, The Shadow radio program premiered, featuring The Shadow, realized by writer, Walter Brown Gibson, as a crime fighting character who learned the ability to “cloud men’s minds so that they could not see him”. The Shadow was portrayed by several actors throughout the life of the program, including Orson Welles who was the first voice actor to portray the character. The program eventually went on to be broadcast in different countries with other voice actors taking on the roles of the characters and reflected each country’s own take on the program.
The Shadow radio program aired its final program on December 26, 1954.
