Founded in 1977 as Europadisk Plating Co by Jim Shelton and Christian Lach (2), Europadisk was initially a specialist plating facility serving the record pressing industry and commenced operations in September 1977. The company was also the USA sales representative for Europa Film Record Plating Division (Sweden) marketing their advanced plating equipment.
In April 1981 they started pressing records from imported Teldec vinyl compound and in 1987 installed a DMM disc cutting facility and cassette duplication making it a full service record and cassette manufacturer.
All the technology used at Europadisk was the latest European technology which was far more advanced than American equipment, making this a state-of-the-art record pressing plant producing the highest quality records. While they used three Hamilton (USA) and two Toolex Alpha (Sweden) presses, their promotional material only ever mentioned the Swedish presses to keep with the "European technology" theme. Europadisk only ever pressed 12" records and all their 7" orders were contracted out to other plants.
How to credit the plant from the vinyl runouts:
Note: EDP in oval is a logo, please use [EDP logo] in its place
- Circled EDP stamp or EDP hand etched: Plated At (indicating that the record was plated by Europadisk, either for other plants or for their own pressings). Often found with identifiers matching other US record pressing plants.
- Circled EDP stamp or EDP hand etched, plus 1 1/32" (1.03125") / 26.2 mm pressing ring: Pressed By.
- "Europadisk": Lacquer Cut At + 4 or 5 digit number
- "Europadisk DMM": Mastered At + 4 or 5 digit number
The latter two usually in combination with a Treble Clef ( 𝄞 ) or ampersand (&) like symbol, indicating a lacquer cut by Don Grossinger, or with SB, indicating Steve Berson).
In the '90s, glass mastering and CD replication facilities were added with DVD manufacturing added in 2004. The company closed in 2005.
