Info
Lithuanian music label in Kaunas, founded by Modestas Mastavičius, active from the early 90s until around 2011. The original parent company, Matista, engaged in music distribution, was switched in around 1998 to Megarsa, more focused on even organising, still operated by the same person.
Started out as a pirate label of foreign music, from 1993 started releasing Lithuanian music legally.
Notable for numerous cassettes released during the 90s featuring predominately younger pop artists. In total over 200 MCs and around 50 CDs were producing durings the label's tenure. It is also responsible for releasing all of Džordana's albums during its years of activity.
Database information
All cassettes produced until 1993 (and some from 1994) have blank or RAKS-branded cassette shells without information on the album.
Typical cat. no. format (though exceptions are present):
- Pirate cassettes: 0000 COMPACT DISC
- Album cassettes:
* on the cover (until ~050): 000
* on the cover (~050-147): MC 000 (single-directional arrow)
* on the cover (148-~223): MRMC 000 (multi-directional arrow)
* on the cover (~223 onwards): MRMC 000MM (where MM stands for the release month)
* on the tape (until 147): 000
* on the tape (148 onwards): MRMC 000
- Single cassettes: MRMC 000
- Album CDs (until 031): MRCD 000
- Album CDs (032 onwards): MRCD 000MM (where MM stands for the release month)
- Single CDs: MRCDS 000
Numeric part of the cassette does not match the corresponding CD.
Starting around 1995 the month of the release date is printed next to the copyright information. Examples include:
ⓅⒸ YYYY M.E.G.A. REC./000M
ⓅⒸ YYYY M.E.G.A. REC./MRMC 000/M
Where YYYY stands for the release year, first three numerals for the catalogue no. and M for the release month (double digits only where necessary).
A few releases from 1996 featuring dance music covers/mixes/compilations likely released without needed rights, and thus in order to distance them from the label (?), lack any cat. no. (replaced with an icon of a dancers) and copyright information inside. There are however numbered internally, leaving gaps: 129, 132, 135, 136, 139, 140.
