German entertainment label founded in the late 1960's as an imprint of the Gruner + Jahr GmbH & Co. publishing company. In 1970, the catalog was expanded to include radioplays.
In 1985, Gruner + Jahr sold the Maritim back catalog to BMG Ariola München, which continued distribution under its own brand, Ariola Express, effectively discontinuing the Maritim label.
In 1999, entrepreneur Carsten Hermann from Dortmund acquired the rights to the brand and founded the Maritim-Verlag publishing company as part of Verlagsgruppe Hermann. By this time, the revived Maritim label became a pure radioplay label.
The label was taken over in 2015 by Sebastian B. Pobot as part of his Austrian company group Skyscore Media GmbH.
