Codemasters

Codemasters, officially The Codemasters Software Company Limited, is a British video game developer, established in October 1986 and based in Southam, England, with additional offices in Birmingham and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In February 2021, Codemasters was acquired by the US corporation Electronic Arts; since then, it has been operating as part of the EA Sports division. In the past, the company was also a game publisher, with a dedicated CodeMasters Ltd. branch launched in 1991 and active until 2022, when it was dissolved shortly after EA's takeover.

Between 2010 and 2018, the Indian media & entertainment company Reliance Entertainment Ltd. owned the majority stake in Codemasters, after acquiring a 50% share in April 2010, and increasing its interest to 60.41% in June 2013. The Codemasters held an IPO on the London Stock Exchange in June 2018; after the public offering, Reliance BIG Entertainment ended up with a 29.5% stake. In November 2020, Take-Two Interactive approached Codemasters with a merger & acquisition offer valued at £739.2 million. However, Electronic Arts joined the bidding competition by offering a 14% higher valuation, which Codemasters ultimately accepted.
