"Vsesoyuznaja Studija Gramzapisi" (translated as "All-Union recording studio") was founded on November 5, 1957 in Moscow, USSR, and started as a label, but was also a recording studio and occassionaly a record pressings plant. The Logo of the pre-Мелодия plant reads "ВСГ" ("VSG"), which has been used on its releases along with the full title.
On July 1964 "VSG" was joined with the "All-Union Melodiya record firm" label 426284 and became its main recording studio. "VSG" also selected repertoire and performers, defined the plan of records to be made, and manufactured matrix copies for all Soviet record plants. Until 1978 VSG had a relatively small production for vinyl and flexy records, which have "Melodiya" logo (Мелодия) along with "Vsesoyuznaja Studija Gramzapisi" (Всесоюзная Студия Грамзаписи) in text on the record label.
