Info
Dogstar Media was initiated in 1995 as an offshoot of 'zine publication imprint, Dogstar Press. The latter was the independent vehicle for the 'zine, "Rant'N'Rave", published throughout the early to mid-1990s in Texas. The publisher featured several stock personas and was edited by Doghead Cola, who also used the vehicle to publish a number of folios of experimental writing and poetry. Much of this work was later collected in the compendium "Smith's Each of Illusion", which went through at least two re-prints and subsequent variations over the next decade and a half.
Branching into audio and CD-ROM work, the 'Press' evolved into its 'Media' inheritor with its first release in 1995 of the E23 e.p. "ATP". Subsequent audio-only music releases were slowly forthcoming, with the main thrust of the imprint's work in commercial audio and later podcast production. As of 2022 the label collaborated with Ronin Janitor Records in a partnership for back catalogue releases.
