Samuel Ricciuti

Samuel Ricciuti is a Montreal-based artist, musician, producer, curator, graphic designer, and co-founder of Chez.Kito.Kat Records, an independent label dedicated to experimental, electronic, ambient, and hybrid forms of sound creation.

Active since the early 2000s, Ricciuti has developed a multidisciplinary practice that moves fluidly between music production, sound design, visual arts, and cultural programming. His work resists easy categorization, drawing equally from ambient, downtempo, dub, hip-hop, post-punk, electroacoustic composition, breakbeat, and experimental electronic music. This broad spectrum of influences informs a body of work characterized by textured atmospheres, cinematic soundscapes, and a strong DIY ethos.

Over the years, he has released numerous EPs, albums, remixes, and collaborative projects through labels in Canada and Europe, including Wondernoise, Schnurstrax, Soundzfromnowhere, Chat Blanc, and Chez.Kito.Kat Records. Under various aliases and collaborations, he has contributed to projects such as DBY, Safia Nihil, Komparce, Beat For Sale, Hundred Oaks, and Bochum Ludmila.

As one half of Safia Nihil, alongside his long-time creative partner and fellow label co-founder, he explores immersive territories where ambient music, modular synthesis, field recordings, dub techniques, and North African influences converge. The project has recently been presented in Montréal at events including MUTEK, Nuit Blanche, and a variety of independent cultural venues.

Beyond his musical activities, Ricciuti has composed sound works for video, photography, choreography, and contemporary art installations. Notable collaborations include sound environments created around the work of artist Daniel Buren at the MUDAM – Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean in Luxembourg, as well as projects developed for cultural events in France and Canada.

Through Chez.Kito.Kat Records, he also acts as artistic director and visual designer, creating artwork, visual identities, album packaging, and promotional material for many of the label's releases. In recent years, he has contributed to the development and release of projects by artists including Dan Planet, Vivian Li, Safia Nihil, and other members of Montréal's experimental electronic community.

His ongoing practice seeks to create meaningful connections between sound, memory, place, and collective experience, embracing experimentation while remaining deeply rooted in independent culture and artistic collaboration.
